在3015年廖文斌是时间规划局的一名时间特派员，清明奇妙因定标错位而穿越到了“大浪潮”。廖文斌需要用皇帝的“清明玉”才能返回到3015年，清明奇妙作为交换条件皇帝让他帮自己追到竹鹤坊的头牌歌姬朱却。但大将军赵自在早就对朱却情有独钟。为了取得和朱雀的相会，赵自在和廖文斌开始了一场比拼，廖文斌胜出。廖文斌和朱却相会时告知了追她的真相，朱雀大怒。并和廖文斌打赌看见日月同辉才肯嫁给皇上，廖文斌使用现代科技实现了日月同辉。在此时赵自在因没有得到朱却起兵造反，抓住了廖文斌。赵自在和朱雀大婚当天会处死廖文斌，危机关头内卫三虎营救了廖文斌和朱却。后来廖文斌才明白原来这是皇上利用朱却，设计的一个圈套其目的就是除掉赵自在。

Natty runs away from the guardian she was left with to follow Dad. She befriends and is befriended by a wolf that has been abused in dog fights, hops a freight train west, and is presumed dead when her wallet is found after the train crashes. Dad gets bitter and endangers himself in his new job. Meanwhile Natty has a series of adventures and mis- adventures in various farmhouses, police stations, hobo camps, reform schools, and boxcars.
