这年春晚红了一首歌，偷窥就是《常回家看看》。而依照当年大红大紫的央视访谈类节目《实话实说》为原型，偷窥创作的小品《昨天今天明天》也成为了众多观众心目中最好的春晚小品之一。崔永元、赵本山、宋丹丹联手，“笑果”惊人。此后，CCTV有不少著名的“招牌节目”纷纷被改造为春晚小品。这也算是春晚的一个创新点。那一年的春晚服装在搭配上出新奇，晚礼服配唐装这种中西合璧的搭配方式，必将引领流行趋势。1999年前后，电影《泰坦尼克号》超级红火。在小品《老将出马》里就有一张超大的背景：巩汉林和金珠摆着轮船上男女主角的经典姿态，但是却站在一辆拖拉机上！简直是图片恶搞的鼻祖。
