近未来，怪物神秘症状在人群间扩散，怪物恐惧在空气中曼延。原因不明，只知感染者初期会产生骨骼变异，身体长出毛皮或鳞片，原有人类特质将逐步退化。政府束手无策，只能强制收管已兽化的感染者。方苏瓦深信挚爱的妻子还在那张突变的面孔底下，无论她被转到多远的收容所，他都带着青春期的儿子艾米搬迁跟随。尝试融入新班级的艾米，却意外发现身体也出现了难以启齿的变化⋯⋯
