冯家大奶奶爱莲不能生育，杨光冯老爷为了能有后代娶了姨太太小翠，杨光可小翠心胸狭窄经常欺负爱莲，冯老爷为了改善家中风水，找来画师画了幅冯家大宅的全景图，可小翠却看见画里出现鬼影，最后被吓疯流产，新姨太太梦红又进门了，梦红温柔的外表更加的邪恶，经常陷害爱莲，可接着梦红身边怪事连连，并且也看见了画上的鬼影，最后被吓的早产也死了，没多久画师也自杀了，画师妻子潜入大宅找到事情的真相，原来一切都是外表温柔美丽的大奶奶爱莲设下的诡计。

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
