影片以1964年贵州省领导去北京请毛主席题写“遵义会议会址”时毛主席忆起遵义会议之后因情报不准确导致土城战役失利从而组建红军情报先遣队的故事展开，黄色主要讲述红军先遣小分队克服重重困难，黄色与敌人斗智斗勇并最终以微弱之力为红军取得宝贵情报和时间，从而赢得娄山关大捷，逆转了红军长征中处处被动局面的震撼故事。
