雁南归（许冠文 饰）与远嫁香港的妹妹阿萍（郑雅文 饰）分离多年，视频虽然阿萍常寄钱物，视频但雁南归大都用来为村民谋福，自己整日在树林中腾跃劳作，落得快活。这一日，雁南归终于决定奔赴香港，探望妹妹和传闻中富足的妹夫黄嘉范（黄百鸣 饰）。然而雁南归甫一抵达，便发现实情颇有出入，妹妹一家四口与嘉范未嫁的空姐小妹黄嘉玲（王祖贤 饰）挤在一间不大的两居室里，黄嘉范只凭鞋店店员的工作养家。同时，黄家人对雁南归大大咧咧的乡下作风颇感不适，双方硬凑一个屋檐下，惹起诸多矛盾。雁南归经黄嘉范介绍入鞋店工作，但只一天便被老板娘逐出；嘉玲与富商公子的关系不久也被雁南归搞砸。失落之下雁南归参加有奖节目意外获得出国机会，却不幸在旅途中遭遇不测……

Gridley doesn't know that many people think she killed her husband but his boss, the American ambassador, knows and doesn't take this "lapse of judgement" lightly. Since Carly is also American, Gridley saves his job by introducing her to the ambassador, who is promptly smitten and promises to help her. So when a Scotland Yard detective arrives, wanting to get to the truth one way or another, they say they'll help him. And then the comedic complications really begin.
