故事开始于20世纪30年代的好莱坞，残暴14岁的朱迪（蕾妮·齐薇格 Renée Zellweger 饰）因为其甜美的嗓音而被经纪人梅耶（理查德·科德里 Richard Cordery 饰）看中，残暴就此走上了星途，但此时的朱迪并不知道的是，等待着她的，除了功成名就所带来的的名声和财富之外，更多的是痛苦。 时间来到几十年后，已经40岁的朱迪同丈夫西德尼（卢夫斯·塞维尔 Rufus Sewell 饰）离了婚，独自抚养两个孩子罗娜（贝拉·拉姆齐 Bella Ramsey 饰）和乔伊（勒温·劳埃德 Lewin Lloyd 饰），经济状况十分的糟糕。无奈之下，朱迪做了一个决定，那就是将两个孩子留给前夫，自己前往英国继续打拼事业，可是此时的朱迪的健康情况已经非常的糟糕了，更糟的是，她早已经失去了粉丝们的信任。

Some days, just getting out of bed is too hard. Therapy and anti-depressant medication is helping him keep his head above water - but is that really the best he can hope for?Alastair Campbell says: “I’ve been on antidepressants for years and years and none of them can stop it. I want to understand my depression and find out if modern science has any better ways of treating it. I’m hoping there’s something out there that can help me lead a happier life.“I feel we are nearing a tipping point in the battle to demolish the stigma and taboo surrounding mental illness and TV is a very good medium for bringing these issues right out into the open. I have never regretted being open about my own issues but an important part of this film is also seeing my depression through the eyes of members of my family, especially my partner Fiona. I was also keen to get out there and find out what kind of progress was being made on the scientific and research front. There is a lot going on. My worry is that we are winning the battle for better awareness but losing the battle for the services we need."I was very pleased with the reaction to the film in Sheffield [at Doc/Fest]. One film alone cannot change the world but there is finally the focus on these issues that we need and hopefully one day we will have services to match.”
