人到中年，国产国产观纳珀拉斯（马塞洛·马斯楚安尼 Marcello Mastroianni 饰）开始体会到了人生的无奈和命运的无常。一日，国产国产观在一列火车上，纳珀拉斯遇见了一个长相美艳的女子，他深深的为女子的美艳所着迷，女子似乎也对纳珀拉斯颇为中意，正在两人情意绵绵之时，女子却突然走下了停止的火车，惊讶的纳珀拉斯尾随其后。追随着女子的脚步，纳珀拉斯来到了一家大饭店，走进饭店，展现在纳珀拉斯面前的是一个名符其实的“女人城”。在这座女人城里，纳珀拉斯经历了一番充满了痛苦的奇异旅程，在质疑、拷问和折磨之间，纳珀拉斯早已经无法分辨，这里的一切究竟是梦境还是现实。
