美国中西部某个小镇，玩偶制作师塞缪尔·穆林斯（安东尼·拉帕格利亚 Anthony LaPaglia 饰）和妻子埃丝特·穆林斯（米兰达·奥图 Miranda Otto 饰）女儿安娜贝尔（萨马拉·李 Samara Lee 饰）过着幸福无忧的生活，然而突如其来的车祸夺走了安娜贝尔的生命，穆林斯一家的生活从此陷入黑暗之中。12年后，一辆老旧的大巴拉来了修女夏洛特（斯黛芬妮·西格曼 Stephanie Sigman 饰）及其收养的孩子，从此之后，穆林斯的房子便成为了她们暂时落脚的新的孤儿院。此时的塞缪尔面色阴郁，他引领孩子们参观这座房子，却独独禁止女孩们步入安娜贝尔的房间。好奇心颇重的琳达和珍妮丝没有听从塞缪尔的话，她们由此打开了恐怖的大门……

Shot on location with an atmosphere mixing playground horror and conservatory theatre that is downright weird and unsettling. The great lost girl of sixties British horror, Vanessa Howard, shines as she does in those other rarely seen gems Corruption [1967] and What Became of Jack and Jill [1972]. If Harold Pinter had made The Texas Chain Saw Massacre [1974] for the BBC this could have resulted. Excellent and unique.
