在电视台担任足球评论员的滕远峰（濮存昕 饰）突然接到法院传票，天台妻子林翘（许晴 饰）要与自已离婚，天台这让他一时丈二和尚摸不着头脑。原来，执着于自身事业的滕远峰婚后冷落了妻子，他认为家中不愁吃喝穿戴，林翘应该安于现状，但精神层面的缺失让林翘寂寞难耐，她与女子合唱团的指挥张客（郭峰 饰）发生了一夜情。随着儿子慢慢长大，她惊异地发现儿子长得越来越象张客，这一发现非同小可，这个被物化了的羞耻心日夜折磨着她，不明就里的滕远峰自儿子降生后，对母子俩疼爱有加，这更加巨了林翘良心的不安，只能提出与丈夫离婚……

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
