叶小霞中学毕业后，牺牲助母打理饭店，牺牲经小霞改革后，饭店客似云来。霞热爱唱歌，却惹恼了对户高家的家庭教师金剑云，二人终日斗气。霞与同学郊游，经同学介绍认识了云，二人冰释前嫌，渐生情愫。一日，霞淘气地躲进高家大少大雄的汽车箱，误打误撞随雄入城。霞满身污垢，衣衫破烂，只好暂留于雄家。为免雄的未婚妻误会，霞左躲右避，此时云亦追至寻访霞，众人互相猜疑，闹出不少笑话。霞终于露面说明一切，平息了一场误会
