许怀谷（许冠文 饰）专职为人算命，午夜但他实际上不过是预先搜集了客人的资料而且利用了客人的心理，午夜被人称为神算。税务局局长夫人疑心丈夫有外遇前来占卜，竟然让许怀谷猜中了疑似局长情人的名字。局长遭到妻子责骂后，决定派出评税员邱浩基（黎明 饰）调查许怀谷的收入。调查期间，许因为头部受伤得了超能力，接触到别人手脚便能看到对方的将来。浩基为了升职便要求许怀谷接近商人洪森，希望能找到他瞒税的证据。开始时候洪森处处回避，当知道许怀谷是个神算后，便重金礼聘二人。浩基借此机会彻底调查洪森……
