回复 :怪獣ブームのさなかに日活が1967年に製作した怪獣映画。渡辺明の原案を、『放浪のうた』の山崎巌と、『殺るかやられるか』の中西隆三がシナリオ化し、『日本仁侠伝 花の渡世人』の野口晴康が監督した。巨大怪獣の脅威と親子の情愛を中心に描き、恋愛ものの要素までも取り入れた意欲作。雑誌記者の黒崎浩は、カメラマンの小柳糸子と共に、船津社長の命を受けて南海諸島の探検に出かけた。2人には、生物学助教授の殿岡が同行したが、たまたま、ある火山島に上陸した3人は、薄気味悪い洞窟を見つける。その奥には巨大な卵があって、島民の話ではガッパの卵だという。ガッパとは、身長70メートル以上、ワニのような鱗のある太い胴体と4本の足、そして、前足から尾にかけて大きな羽根のある爬虫類である。ちょうど卵が割れてガッパの子供が現われたが、思わぬ獲物に喜んだ黒崎は、ガッパの怒りを恐れる島民の反対を押し切って、日本へ連れて行くことにするが・・・。
