五个盟军准将被俘虏后关押在意大利，日本美国国人派了一个专业逃兵去救他们。那逃兵本是士官，日本为了行动方便给他穿了少将制服……那意大利典狱长是个搞旅馆业出身的上校，他让那些准将囚犯们受到了宾至如归的高级待遇，以致囚犯们决定等到该典狱长晋升准将后才越狱。不料，该典狱长晋升的晚上意大利投降了，监狱被德国人接管，那盟军专业逃兵只得带着典狱长共计六个准将从防守严密得多的德国战俘营逃离……
