电影由两个短片组成。财主胡万年（王憾尘 饰）死了，留下了妻子（王莱 饰）孤身一人无依无靠。胡万年的女儿（胡茵茵 饰）告诉自己的三位兄长，母亲拥有父亲留下的一个大金元宝，价值连城。于是，三个孩子非常殷勤的抢着照顾起母亲来，实际上，他们的举动并非出自真心，而仅仅是为了得到财产而已。最终，母亲去世了，生前受到了孩子们精心的照料，而直到此时，三个男人才知道，他们上了妹妹的当。老板娘嫌弃老板年纪大，婚姻生活失去了激情。一次偶然中，老板娘邂逅了车夫小唐（成龙 饰），两人之间碰撞出的激情的火花。然而很快，这段奸情便被老板给发现了。

回复 :中年男子孔令学（范伟 饰）是东北某市双全文武学校的语文老师，他上课认真负责，无奈所面对的是一群不知天高地厚，对祖国美好文字全无兴趣的新新人类。在一次课上，他没收了女孩刘萌（白卉子 饰）的手机，之后又阻止了追求刘萌的社会青年阿祥（支一 饰）的打架行为，由此惹来了一身麻烦。阿祥每天在孔令学下班后跟踪他，声称要“帮助辛苦的孔老师接送孩子下学”，这令一向忠厚本分的孔令学颇为恐慌。为了甩掉这个死缠烂打的小青年，他每天想尽各种办法，可是女儿的学校和家庭住址终于还是被阿祥搞清楚了。在这一过程中，孔令学的生活渐渐变成了一团乱麻……本片根据胡学文的原著小说《大风起兮》改编。

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
