北方的沿海小城生活着刘氏一家，美国脾气固执、美国恪守规矩独居村中的爷爷刘士堺；嘴硬心软、极爱面子的父亲刘卫国；宠溺儿子、热心公益的母亲王佩芬以及执着摄影梦想，在南方艰难谋生的孙子刘守闯，但一家人已经很久没有一起吃过一顿晚饭了。渔村一年一度的谷雨渔民节即将举行，但谷雨祭海仪式却只有刘士堺及老张一辈的老人十分上心。三年在外，突然归来的刘守闯带回了下个月结婚的消息，难得相聚的一顿晚饭，却不料将刘士堺与儿子刘卫国深埋心底多年的矛盾却也爆发出来。刘守闯女朋友钱璐的到来也为这个渔民家庭带来变数，两代父子彼此间的坚持与妥协、鱼刺精神的传承与消逝，城市的开放与渔村的固守，房子问题下的中国式婚姻，汇集在这个普通的中国北方渔民家庭当中，在渔民节开海的日子里，等待解决。
