苦命女人沈琇娥（刘雪华 饰）半生操劳，金瓶前夫打渔时身亡，金瓶她无奈带着一双儿女天柱和妞嫁给屠户张宝德（施雨 饰）。宝德为人忠厚，勤恳老实，他的妻子之前难产去世，现如今家里有一个呆傻的老父亲（贾兆冀 饰）和独子虎子。两个命运坎坷之人结为夫妇，婚后相敬如宾，勤劳能干，之后还生下一个孩子豆豆，并领养了无家可归的小叫花子大龙。生活虽然清苦，孩子们又有着这样那样的矛盾和冲突，可却也算是平稳度日。谁知命运的磨难在刚刚开始，宝德因病撒手人寰，生活的重担全部落在琇娥一人的肩头。她隐忍、她慈悲、她博爱，咬紧牙关拉扯着孩子们长大，一个后母、一个女人的征程就此开始……
