指挥家宋羽（周润发 饰）与设计师悦香（林青霞 饰）相识于香港的某个兵马俑展览，月之源二人回家后，月之源便开始常常梦到对方。在梦中，二人不再是以现实中的身份出现，而是幻化成了两千年前的生死相随的恋人……现实中的宋羽和悦香也开始似梦中人般相知相恋，宋羽的女友更因接受不了他的变心而绝望地选择了自杀。而在梦中的悦香，竟也在两千年前为当时的恋人宋羽自杀。而这一段轮回了两千年的爱情，最终会何去何从呢……
