鐘鎮濤飾演一位感情出軌的花心攝影師，酥酥林鳳嬌飾演其妻子。一次鐘鎮濤在和情人約會的過程中被妻子的姐姐雇傭的私家偵探拍攝到了他們偷情的照片，酥酥林鳳嬌看到后傷心欲絕，多次與鐘鎮濤的助手方正傾吐苦水。鐘鎮濤得知妻子知道自己有外遇后遷怒于方正，還誤以為他和妻子有染，對其和林鳳嬌大打出手，卻失手從樓梯下滾落還被家裡的寵物狗咬了一口。衛生局的人以其得了狂犬病為由要將其收入醫院救治，卻被害怕住院的他嚇得四處逃竄，逼不得已時他又回頭去向林鳳嬌求救，心軟的林鳳嬌將鐘鎮濤帶到某診所，即將展開一場「特別治療」……

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.

The enterprising Wokulski now proves a romantic at heart, falling in love with Izabela, daughter of the vacuous, bankrupt aristocrat, Tomasz Łęcki. In his quest to win Izabela, Wokulski begins frequenting theatres and aristocratic salons; and to help her financially distressed father, founds a company and sets the aristocrats up as shareholders in his business.The indolence of these aristocrats, who secure with their pensions, are too lazy to undertake new business risks, frustrates Wokulski. His ability to make money is respected but his lack of family and social rank is condescended to.
