影片讲述的是江户时代的浮世绘画家葛饰北斋的故事，日韩将主要围绕青年时期的北斋和著名出版人茑屋重三郎(著名书店Tsutaya的名字就来源于他的姓氏)、日韩老年期的北斋和他的搭档柳亭种彦展开。柳乐优弥饰演青年时期的北斋，田中泯饰演老年时期的北斋，阿部宽饰演出版人茑屋重三郎，瑛太饰演戏作家柳亭种彦，玉木宏扮演擅画美人的浮世绘画家喜多川歌麿。
