玛格丽塔（马吉莉塔·贝 Margherita Buy 饰）是一位人到中年的导演，斗牛随着年岁的增长，斗牛她越来越觉得身边的一切都在逐渐脱离她的掌控。玛格丽塔最近正在拍摄一部新片，其中扮演男主角的巴里（约翰·特托罗 John Turturro 饰）是一个非常不靠谱的人，他的不受控制给玛格丽塔带来了非常多的麻烦，令她焦头烂额。与此同时，玛格丽塔的母亲的健康情况也每况愈下，同时她的女儿似乎也进入了青春期，行为格外的叛逆。一连串意外的发生让玛格丽塔的精神濒临崩溃的边缘，可当她鼓起勇气咬紧牙关，在接踵而至的难题面前见招拆招后，她发现自己似乎对生活有了新的见解。
